Artists
Throughout my work i have been influenced by various artist, some of whom's work is similar to my own, whilst other work may not fit with my project, but interests me for future work.
As my project is based on the idea of flight of the mind, ie, thoughts, feelings, hopes and fears, I have looked at the artist Cornelia Parker, whose work often uses the ideas of hanging objects/shapes, creating a shape or a movement.
I like the images below of as at some stage i would like to create similar style of work.

Ai Weiwei sunflower seeds appeals to me, due to the scale and mass production of the pieces, the fact that, from far away the piece looks like an ocean of grey sand, and close up is detailed hand made/painted sunflower seeds.

Sachiko AbeI first discovered Sachiko Abe from an art gallery trip to liverpool.
Her work using the long strings of paper has influenced me to create hanging lights that look surreal and intriguing. The use of thinly cut strings of paper gives the piece a real unique and detailed quality.

Spy Party Project
At the start of the year, we were put into groups and given a project, where we had to create a themed party. The theme we got given was a spy theme.
For our spy party, we started by brainstorming of things we would need:
We decided on a dress code of black clothes that look spy like (James Bond, Mission in Possible)

Next we decided that we needed to base our room as a spy headquarters, we decided to gather pictures and bit of information, to look as if we had been researching in on a case.

We use black cloth to cover the walls, and created black and white silhouettes of spy’s that we would put on our walls and around the room.

As our project was spy themed, we decided to use a Dictaphone to secretly record other groups talking, that we would then play at the party, instead of music.
We then thought about what props we would need, so we gathered old cameras, sunglasses, recording devices, newspapers with eyeholes for spying and handmade CCTV cameras.

For food and drinks, we decide to just have drinks, opting for Martini (shaken not stirred)
The spy project was successful, as we had a clear idea, and worked well as a team.

Game Project
For the summer project we had to design and make an original game to be played by 6 people.
The criteria for my game is:
- That it is easy to play and learn rules
- Allows people to get to know each other
- Suitable for 16 to 25
- Relatively small to pack away
- Suitable for any number of players, but must be able to be played by 6
Research scope
I decided to look at existing games to see if i could try and adapt them into a new game.
Games
I looked at the following games:
- Board games
- Snakes and ladders
- Ludo
- Monopoly
- Cluedo
- Trivial Pursuits
- Activity games
- Twister
- Pictionary
- Articulate
- Jenga
- TV Games
- Deal or No Deal
- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
- Countdown
- Wheel of Fortune
- Bullseye
- Traditional games
- Dominoes
- Scrabble
- Chess
- Draughts
- Party games
- Charades
- Pass The Parcel
- Spin The Bottle
Game Design
I decided to create a board game, as i can combine something familiar with elements of talking, acting, and participation by each player.
I have decided to use snakes and ladders as a basis of my game, as the game is well known and easy to understand.
I then combined questions, forfeits and dares in order to make the game more interesting.
The design adapted into lines of squares with arrows in the mirror, which decide which way the counters move.
Question Categories
The categories are designed to make it easier for players to talk about themselves whilst at the same time not making it impossible to answer. Categories are taken from games like Trivial Pursuits, Pictionary and Articulate, plus traditional games like Charades.
There are six categories:
- Red Squares - General Knowledge
- Blue Squares - Singing/Acting
- Green Squares - Tell Us About Yourself
- Yellow Squares - Dare
- Purple Squares - Mime/ Draw
- Orange Squares - Forfeit/ Advantage
If a player lands on a coloured square, which is at the base of a line of the same colours, a question, dare or forfeit of that colour is asked. If the question is answered correctly then the player can move up to the top of the chain.
